This is a great book on Biblical manhood

This is a great book on Biblical manhood. Of course raising a boy into a Biblical man has always taken a lot of thought and wisdom, but it seems like maybe even more so now than in other times because of the way that society is revolting against the very idea that God indeed did create a man and a woman with ways of glorifying God that are unique to each gender. I highly recommend this to all Christians who are raising boys.

Practical and interesting

Although I do not have kids yet, the lessons and chapters and concepts taught in this book have been useful for me in dealing with my own sunday school kids (of course the boys in particular). Lot of verses from Proverbs,very insightful.

What Kind of Man Should My Boy Become?

I have read a lot of books on parenting, and particularly on parenting boys, and this is far and away the best I've yet encountered. Wilson's counsel is both pastoral and practical, and always tinged with his typical witty prose.

His approach is very different from many other parenting books, mainly because he starts from a different perspective. Rather than beginning with the various challenges associated with bringing up boys, he challenges parents (and especially fathers) to give consideration to the type of men we want our boys to become. In every circumstance, he encourages us to think about how best to prepare our boys for mature manhood. This often results in a very different approach from what society typically advocates, in everything from discipline to roughhousing to education.

If you have (or may ever have) a son or grandson, this is a very worthwhile book to have available as a reference (I expect to revisit it frequently as my son grows older and enters new stages of life). It would also be a great read for school teachers, as there is much that pertains to nurturing masculinity in the classroom.

Excellent Book for Medical Students

I ordered this book as a companion to my fourth-year Cardiology elective and it was hugely helpful! Although slightly less in-depth than I would like, it does an excellent job of explaining cardiac pathophysiology. Explanations are concise, easily understood, relatively complete, and written in an easy, conversational style. I think this book is likely geared best towards students in their first two years, but still taught me some new things and helped reinforce my understanding of cardiac diseases.

I have owned more than a couple of the editions of this fine book. I have always considered it to be perhaps the best "Intro to Cardiology" book that I have recommended to many classmates or colleagues. Lilly does an outstanding job of boiling down the vast subject of cardiology and producing an easy to read book that includes all the various subjects that one needs to know when dealing with cardiovascular patients. The chapter on pharmacology is probably the best synopsis of cardiovascular drugs I have ever read (yes, I have actually read previous editions of this book from cover to cover). The perfect book for anyone who is looking at working with cardiology patients, whether in the clinic or on the wards.

The authority in cardiac path

I used this book for my cardiac sonography program, and is hands down, the best book to understand pathophysiolgy. It reviews anatomy, physiology, pharm, EKG's (not in the depth that Dublin does), signs/symptoms, diagnostic test, exam findings, and treatments. It is very, very readable and high yield. Recommend it to fellow echo students, medical students, PA's, nurses, and anyone else that needs to learn cardiac pathology.

Unique and valuable

I read - studied - this book many years ago and recently gave it to a friend who is a healing practitioner and who is avidly studying it. The language of 90 - 100 years ago is a slight barrier however the content is invaluable. I started off giving this 4 stars due to the language however it is truly worth 5 starts.

Based upon the insight and experience of a mystic and master of meditation Inayat Khan identifies the connections of mind and body decades before this became commonly accepted. His understanding and practical techniques tally with contemporary medicine as well as contemporary 'alternative' medicine.

The value of his teaching is viewpoint that is based upon extensive experience as a practitioner and his deep understanding of human psychology. The book has sections on improving ones health, self healing, and healing others with both theory and practical techniques.

About the Author
Michael Levy, PhD, is the Charles Clarke Reynolds Professor of Marketing and Director of the Retail Supply Chain Institute at Babson College. He received his PhD in business administration from The Ohio State University and his undergraduate and MS degrees in business administration from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He taught at Southern Methodist University before joining the faculty as professor and chair of the marketing department at the University of Miami. Professor Levy has developed a strong stream of research in retailing, business logistics, financial retailing strategy, pricing, and sales management. He has published over 50 articles in leading marketing and logistics journals, including the Journal of Retailing, Journal of Marketing, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, and Journal of Marketing Research. He currently serves on the editorial review board of the Journal of Retailing, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, International Journal of Logistics Management, International Journal of Logistics and Materials Management, ECR Journal, and European Business Review. He is coauthor of Retailing Management, 6e (2007), the best-selling college-level retailing text in the world. Professor Levy was co-editor of Journal of Retailing from 2001–2007. Professor Levy has worked in retailing and related disciplines throughout his professional life. Prior to his academic career, he worked for several retailers and a housewares distributor in Colorado. He has performed research projects with many retailers and retail technology firms, including Accenture, Federated Department Stores, Khimetrics, Mervyn’s, Neiman Marcus, ProfitLogic (Oracle), Zale Corporation, and numerous law firms. He co-chaired the 1993 Academy of Marketing Science conference and the 2006 Summer AMA conference.

Dhruv Grewal, PhD (Virginia Tech), is the Toyota Chair in Commerce and Electronic Business and a professor of marketing at Babson College. His research and teaching interests focus on marketing foundations, marketing research, retailing, pricing, and value-based strategies. He was awarded the 2005 Lifetime Achievement in Behavioral Pricing Award by Fordham University. He is a “Distinguished Fellow” of the Academy of Marketing Science. He has also coauthored Marketing Research (2004, 2007). Professor Grewal has published over 70 articles in journals such as Journal of Marketing, Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Retailing, and Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science. He currently serves on numerous editorial review boards, including Journal of Retailing, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Interactive Marketing, and Journal of Public Policy & Marketing. He served as co-editor of Journal of Retailing from 2001–2007. Professor Grewal has won many awards for his teaching including, 2005 Sherwin-Williams Distinguished Teaching Award, SMA; 2003 AMA Award for Innovative Excellence in Marketing Education; 1999 AMS Great Teachers in Marketing Award; Executive MBA Teaching Excellence Award (1998); School of Business Teaching Excellence Awards (1993, 1999); and Virginia Tech Certificate of Recognition for Outstanding Teaching (1989). He co-chaired: 1993 AMS Conference, 1998 Winter AMA Conference, a 1998 Marketing Science Institute Conference, 2001 AMA doctoral consortium, and 2006 Summer AMA Conference. Professor Grewal has taught executive seminars and courses and/or worked on research projects with numerous firms, such as IRI, TJX, Radio Shack, Monsanto, McKinsey, Motorola, and numerous law firms. He has taught seminars in the U.S., Europe, and Asia.

Good customer service however the book came with a note ...

Good customer service however the book came with a note explaining why it had a different cover which was a bit disappointed as it never said in the product description that I would come with a different cover. I will be comparing its content to make sure is the one I need since it doesn't feel as heave as the one in the bookstore and the texture of the pages is weird maybe it is just me but I am taking it to the bookstore to compare.

Not bad, but not the best

This book has a nice conversational feel to it (it's basically transcriptions of master classes Chekhov conducted with professional actors), but it is not quite as useful to practicing the elements of the technique as "To the Actor" or "On the Technique of Acting" - which makes sense as it was not written to be a textbook on the technique. It does give a nice alternative perspective to Michael Chekhov and his technique for those who have only read "To the Acto" or "On the Technique of Acting"

Wasn't impressed

I was very excited about this item at first - it's hard to find a text which includes various aspects of literary analysis, especially one aimed at high school level students. However, once I was able to properly go through it, I found very little of substance. Each topic is given only a cursory overview. Most of the book consists of long excerpts from novels, but without any accompanying analysis. The sample student essays are a nice feature, but at $30 a book, I'd rather actual lessons. I didn't feel the series was worth $60, not when we ended up having to cull our lessons from the internet and other resources.

ETA: For the same amount of money, I found this item:Backpack Literature: An Introduction to Fiction, Poetry, Drama, and Writing (4th Edition) to be much more helpful. At 1000 pages, it is able to amply cover almost all aspects of literary analysis. Terms are clearly explained, example stories are provided, analysis is offered, and the author also suggests how to apply what is learned to one's own writing. In addition, there are critical thinking questions after each story, and at the end of each chapter. The final few chapters offer insight on how to write clear essays. Note that this is a university level text, and as such, some of the selections may be too mature for younger readers. However, I have so far found only a few stories I would prefer my 15yo daughter not read.

Helpful Resource!

The "Handbook for Literary Analysis" is a very helpful companion to Dr. Stobaugh's "Skills for Literary Analysis" text book. It provides a more
in-depth explanation for each topic he covers. There are numerous excerpts from many classic literary works that further emphasize the explanations. It has short commentaries and definitions as well as sample student essays. Overall I would say this is an essential addition to Dr. Stobaugh's "Skills for Literary Analysis" course and has helped me tremendously.

Excellent Book

I am currently using this book with my daughter. I love how it teaches the student to recognize a well written book. The student learns how to dissect classics and pull out themes, plots and more. As they read the assigned books they also learn how to identify the authors worldviews and compare them with the Biblical one. My oldest daughter also used this book and it prepared her well for future Literature classes. She continues to refer to it even now while taking an AP Language and Comp. class. Well done, Dr. Stobaugh.

I love that this text book came three hole punched - ...

This text was so helpful throughout my Public Relations Writing class and is now still helpful that I am graduated. I love that this text book came three hole punched - I put the pages into a binder and it was much more convenient than a big thick, hard cover book. I was able to keep all of my class material in the same binder that my text was in and now I can go back and refer to all of that at once. I'd highly suggest not only the book, but getting it three hole punched from this seller.

Inspiring and Profound

If you are feeling lost in life, have questions about who we are, feeling disillusioned by never-ending conflicts around the world, feeling disappointed in yourself and trying to find hope, looking for encouragement or courage, this is a book for you. Its wisdom will nourish your heart for a lifetime. It taught me something very special and priceless about the meaning of life. I always had a vague belief that we all have souls and that there is a God, a Creator, who gave me life and who is always watching over me, but always wondered, "How? Why?" This book helped me find the deeper truth about having eternal life, and why God created this world at all; why God embraces this world in its entirety, both the beautiful and the ugly. It also helped me accept myself for who I am, and see my weaknesses and errors as something very valuable and positive that will help me grow and find lasting wisdom within myself. It's pages are filled with words of wisdom about the world that will help all people, no matter where they live or what they believe.

This is a really fascinating book that provides philosophies for modern people who have to cope with any numbers of every day problems, from those that are personal, to those that concern society and the world at large. It's a philosophy about finding the meaning in life, discovering your personal life mission, what the afterlife is like, where we originally came from before birth into this world, and many others spiritual truths that have never been covered before in other religions. Knowing these spiritual truths, Ryuho Okawa says, will help us live with the difficulties we face in life: economic depression, environmental issues, domestic problems, health, and political corruption. Its message is based on a large scope: it's a meditation on how civilization as a whole should balance its role in evolution and moral values, with the inner world of the mind within each of us.

The CHANGE YOUR LIFE, CHANGE THE WORLD book is one to be read and reviewed many times over for all the wealth of information it contains. I am sure Chapter 5's section of The Creation of Souls will make all western readers sit up and take notice. It is time that mankind begins to ponder upon the fact that human beings are indeed spiritual beings opening their minds to the reality that perhaps there is so much more to this life on earth than even considered up till this time on our planet. Universal thinking has definitely begun to take on a new definition.

I truly enjoyed reading this book and I will recommend others to read it who may or may not be new to the Happy Science teachings of Ryuho Okawa.

The Oneness of God Prevails

The "Oneness and the Trinity" is a scholarly work by David K. Bernard. Have you ever wondered how the trinitarian doctrine evolved from the basic Jewish understanding that God is One? (Here, O Israel, the LORD our God is ONE LORD. Deut. 6.4) In regards to the understanding of who Jesus is, Bernard traces the history of the early church from the post-apostolic age through the early catholic church and the Councils of Nicea and Constantinople, which defined who Jesus was in relationship to God. David Bernard asks the question in his book: "Why did this doctrine (trinitarianism) develop as it did?" He states, "The impetus for the first of the foregoing steps was the Greek philosophical concept of the Logos. Under its influence, the scriptural distinction between God and His Son, which related to the Incarnation, was wrongly imputed to the divine nature of God Himself. In seeking to analyze the New Testament by pagan categories of thought instead of by the context of the Scripture itself, including the prior revelation of the Old Testament, and by the illumination of the Holy spirit, the forerunners of trinitarianism failed to understand the Incarnation." He continues, "And why did these early theologians make such a blunder? They failed to purge themselves of the pagan ideas of their own past and culture. Instead of relying on the trnasforming power of the Holy Spirit, they tried too hard to be intellectually pleasing to their culture and society." I concur with Bernard's findings. As a teenage girl, I found myself in a Presbyterian church, loving God, but wondering who to pray to! They kept talking about the Father, the son, and the Holy Spirit. They called this a trinity or God in three persons. The more I studied, the more confused I became with the trinitarian concept. Didn't the Bible say God is a Spirit, and is not the Holy Ghost a Spirit. And are not both invisible? But Jesus, ahhh...he is a person, flesh and blood. Upon God leading me into the truth and a oneness Apostolic church, I quickly saw that there is only ONE God and his name is Jesus. Jesus said, "He who has seen me, hath seen the Father." And, "I and my father are ONE." The oneness concept of God makes perfect sense. One has to work too hard to prove the trinitarian concept. The Father robed himself in flesh and left his throne in Glory to become the sacrificial lamb of God so that MY sins would be forgiven. And then sent His Holy Spirit to live within me that I too might have eternal life. "For God so loved the world..." Therein is true sacrifice and love for HIS creation.

Bernard has a written a fairly easy to follow book about what early Christians really believed ...

Mr. Bernard has a written a fairly easy to follow book about what early Christians really believed soon after the new testament began. Almost every trinitarian early church history glosses over or misrepresents what most Christians believed in that era and its disingenuous at best. Bernard shows clearly that Justin Martyr, Tertullian, Origen, hypollotus and another writer I have forgotten all said that THE MAJORITY OF CHRISTIANS IN THEIR TIME WERE MODALISTIC MONARCHIANS. There are always two sides to a story and this is the other side that must be told, and I'm glad he is telling it.

Of the oneness writers on early christianity I would say I agree with Mr. Bernards treatment more than others. There are a few reasons why. First, he doesn't outright comdemn the MOntanists as other writers do. I believe his treatment was fair because the MOntanists as any group were complicated and their views have been mischaracterized. I think Montanism is a subject that is screaming for more study. In addition he states very clearly that oneness believers cannot accept dynamic monarchian doctrine as truth. Some other writers really want dynamic monarchians to be just misunderstood modalists but I just don't believe this is the case. As a one God believer, only Jesus' full diety and virgin birth are acceptable.

In conclusion its important for all who call upon the name of Christ to understand what happened in the beginning and see how the truth was slowly but surely subverted and exchanged for lies that cannot profit. The jews who received the truth believed God was absolutely one, the early gentile believers believed God was absolutely one and then slowly mans philosophy creeped in so by the the end of the 3rd century we have three Gods dressed up as one. Its time to get back to what the apostles believed and preached because as we can see from this book it surely wasn't a pagan trinity.

What's the point in writing this book?

His arguments are extraordinarily weak and inconsistent at best and the author is profoundly double-minded....At least the writing is consistent with his belief system, which is apologetic for even mentioning oneness. I didn't want to read the book after the first chapter because of the double tongue.

I will give two examples that perfectly exemplify the entire book.

1. He states that the majority of the common people believed in the oneness doctrine. In the same breath of thought, he says that TPTB wrote trinity into the bible to appease the common people. What???

2.. He admits that there are NO documents that can substantiate/verify anything he is saying and that most of the information he is presenting comes from the trinity advocates (the enemy of oneness) or extra-biblical and unverifiable sources. In the same breath and throughout, he says that ONLY the bible is to be trusted and that ONLY the bible is the inerrant, infallible, and inspired Word of God.

Here is what JESUS said in Matthew 28:19
"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit."

What is so difficult to understand...if it's what Jesus said to do, then why do we feel we need to massage it in any other way....

Time to fight back.

If you want to get off your duff and be pro-active in going after telemarketers, I recommend this book. It's easy to read and makes a good starting point to get going.
You need to be aware that some of the information given is outdated and in a couple instances, incorrect. So when you begin your suit against a company, be sure to double check the statutes that you are using. Thanks to this book, I currently have four cases started against telemarketers. Now. Go get em!!!

Too Mush Legal

I thought it was a joke and partly it is. "How To Sue A Telemarketer: A Manual For Restoring Peace On Earth One Phone Call At A Time" is a book by Stephen Ostrow. I figured I could use some humor in my life.

It turns out to be a cute little book. And it certainly does add some humour to life. I am sort of hoping a telemarketer calls me now.

Interestingly enough it actually contains real information on how to sue in small claims court. Of course I am certain the time payoff is definitely not there and I would suggest you get a real life if you have time to do that.

What you can sue for:
1. Calling a residential telephone number that is on the National Do Not Call Registry;
2. Using a pre-recorded dialing device to initiate a commercial sale;
3. Using a blocked telephone number when initiating a commercial sale;
4. Soliciting a consumer before 8am or after 9pm;
5. Failure to provide a copy of the company's Do Not Call Manual after demand for a copy;

More interestingly, there is also a good case to sue for junk faxes.

Too much legal for me. Funny book though.

Entertaining but new wrinkles: 1) Caller ID reads "BLOCKED CALL". 2) A local number appears but there is no answer when I return the call to check if real ("spoofing"). 3) Caller ID shows area code 525. THAT IS FROM MEXICO CITY - Frequently used by crooks.
Steve Ostrow says that a successful lawsuit depends upon having obtained the Name of the Company and the Phone Number. My phone company has NO suggestions. Guess we're just SOL for now.
