This is a very informative book and a quick read. If you want to learn about the most up to date ways and practices that developers and companies are using (PSR Standards, Unit Testing, Composer, and SO much more.). This book is a great way to get the information quickly and get started implementing them into your workflow right away! Pretty new to object PHP

Pretty new to object PHP, though I had done a bunch of procedural stuff in the past. But after getting this book and reading just the first half, I all of a sudden feel like I have a MUCH better understanding of PHP than I ever did before. HIGHLY recommend, as long as you know the basics, this can get you thinking and operating at a somewhat higher level in no time at all. I've always thought great things about O'Reilly books, but I'll be looking for other books by Josh Lockhart as well...

I've been using PHP for 15 years and found this book to be extremely helpful in explaining all the newer features that make it even more useful. The author does a great job of explaining the concepts, I would recommend this book to anyone who already has an intermediate or advanced understanding of object-oriented PHP and wants to take it to the next level.

About the Author
Diane Rayor is Professor of Classics at Grand Valley State University, where she teaches ancient Greek, mythology, women in antiquity, the classical world, and a classical theatre workshop in the department she co-founded in 2000. Her translations of Greek poetry include Homeric Hymns (2004) and Sappho's Lyre: Archaic Lyric and Women Poets of Ancient Greece (1991); excerpts appear in numerous anthologies, including Norton's Greek Poets (2009). She earned a PhD (1987) from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and a BA (1980) from Colorado College. New translations of Euripides' Medea and Sappho's poetry are in progress.

Elegant translation, helpful intro and notes

It's been some years since I've read the traditional translations of this great play, but I found Professor Rayor's translation to be an elegant, very readable translation. I also found the introduction to ancient Greek tragedy, including the details of how the plays would have been performed, to be a helpful refresher, providing a historical and visual context for how the play would be performed. After all, it is a play: Aristotle (if I recall correctly) to the contrary, performance is critical. I appreciated Karen Libman's director's note on the initial performance based on this translation. I would like to have seen this, but I will keep my eyes open for a future performance somewhere.

A native of the Pacific Northwest, author D.J. Conway has studied the occult fields for over 35 years. Her quest for knowledge has covered every aspect of Paganism and Wicca to New Age and Eastern philosophies; plus history, the magical arts, philosophy, customs, mythologies and folklore. In 1998, she was voted Best Wiccan and New Age author by Silver Chalice, a Pagan magazine.

In a class by itself

This gorgeous tarot deck succeeds in so many ways! The creators of these beautiful cards and companion reference book succeeded at combining elements from many wisdom traditions into the most meaningful divination deck and book I've yet encountered. Bravo! It's rare to find a work of such beauty, grace and wisdom that is so useful and practical. Of the three tarot decks I've used, this one is the very best. I've used this deck with friends who've worked with many different decks, and they agree that Shapeshifter is the most sensitive and information-packed. The deck is extremely easy to work with, since the basic meaning of each card appears on the front of the card. In addition to the regular cards one finds in a tarot deck, this deck contains three new major arcana cards (the Double, the Journey, and the Dreamer), which I found to be some of the most interesting and useful cards in the deck. Unless you are already familiar with a traditional tarot deck that you feel comfortable with, I'm sure you'll enjoy and probably even prefer this deck. Obviously, any divination tools will work (even stones or tortoise shells), but an outstanding tarot deck like Shapeshifter sets itself apart from all the rest with elegance and eloquence; it's simply in a class by itself.

A powerful guide for ongoing spiritual work

I bought this expecting it to be a helpful adjunct deck, and it has become my favorite deck for daily use. There are several strengths: it is beautiful visually; the images and their spiritual/archetypal/historical connections are thoroughly explained; and there are some very powerful spreads. No interpretation of reversed cards is provided because none is needed -- the interpretation presents an energetic and spirtitual frame of reference as a whole -- with the seeker's actions determining how that energy will be used. I'm impressed with the Major Arcana interpretations particularly, as the good card/bad card shtick is bypassed altogether. Instead the authors look at the NATURE of each card, so that the reader can work with energetic resonances instead of simplistic prophecies of joy or doom.
I'm still struggling a bit with the elemental assignments (Swords to Fire and Wands to Air), but I find the interpretation of the cards themselves excellent. Swords, as a suit, is always difficult to interpret (most of the cards seem so negative that one wonders what the point of the suit is), but in this deck, the energetic and spiritual purpose of the often difficult cards is made clear as part of a complete life.
While this is a fine deck for a beginner, I think those who have experience with more traditional decks will really appreciate what the authors and artist have accomplished -- a beautiful deck that encourages an expanded and responsible spiritual life.

Not for me, but for someone else to enjoy.

This deck wasn't bought for me, but as a present for a friend. I use the Aquarian Tarot Deck, ASIN: 0913866695. It was my first deck so I'm inclined to be a little biased. The Shapeshifter Taro has some interesting art, and some of it's good, and some of it isn't as good.
They have Swords as Fire, too. That's strange to me, but the friend I gave it to absolutely loves it that way. Some of the interpretations don't mesh with how I learned, and there are also three or four extra cards. The deck bridges a gap between human and animal/nature spirits, something she's always had difficulty doing.
This deck won't sing for everyone, and for myself, I would have given it three stars. However, the friend I gave it to absolutely loves it and gets a great deal of pleasure out of it, so I'm giving it the full five stars.

Explores disability, queerness, home---beautiful writing.

Eli Clare writes with passion, insight and a poet's sense of language. This is a difficult book to describe as it contains a series of interlinking essays which explore disability, environmentalism, being queer, being gendered, abuse and the meaning of home. As I read this description, I realize it somehow shrinks the real scope of the work and makes it sound like a dry discourse. The reality is that Eli talks about all of these issues through the lens of her own experiences as a lesbian with cerebral palsy who feels deep and abiding love for her childhood home on a river in Oregon. Reading this book, is like having the most delicious and thought provoking conversation with a good friend. It leaves one thinking for days. I've been passing it around my group of friends to rave reviews by all.

exquisitely powerful

Clare weaves personal experiences with politicalideologies--clarifying connecting issues and pointing out thesimilarities and challenges that we face in working through them. Thisbook struck me at emotional and mental levels and has left me with a great deal to think about. One excellent aspect is how to she explains that solutions may never be as simple as we want them to be, but taking the time to understand multiple stories and multiple levels of truth will help us to reach new heights of achievement and equality. I would also strongly recomment Pushing the Limits, ed by Shelley Tremain and Restricted Access, ed by Victoria Brownworth--both collections of works by a diverse group of queer women with disabilities.

This book changed my life

This is an excellent book for disabled queers like myself, and the author, Eli Clare. The book is easily read--Clare uses language that is not pretentious, but establishes a voice that is eloquently compelling. "Exile" masquerades as autobiographical but contains a powerful critique of the social constructions of class, disability, sexuality, race, gender, the environment and just about everything else you could imagine (I know this might seem impossible--but Clare accomplishes it in this wonderful book). I highly recommend this book.

You must put it down

Extremely well written and interesting to read. I'd say "you can't put it down", but it's so heavy you have to put it down to read it. It's a terrific biography as well as filmography, and includes many collectables and photos of Hoppy wanna-bes. Interesting business insights too! Grace Boyd's life is more intriguing than most romance novels. Hoppy as a role model is unsurpassed. Russ Cochran and Steve Geppi did a great job putting this package together.

Here he comes........

If your a fan or have any interst in this iconic figure, it's a great book. Super pictures of Bill Boyd and Topper, insight into the films and film making process, and some understanding of the relationship the actor had with his wife, Grace. Plenty of movie memorabilia, and discourse about the 40/50's Hoppy craze that swept the nation as a result of his film popularity and self positioning as a TV pioneer. Yes, before there was Davy Crocket and coonskin caps, there was Hopalong Cassidy and kids running around in black Hoppy outfits. Great effort about someone greatly beloved in his day. Kids of today are disadvantaged in not having screen role models like Hoppy to be entertained by and look up to. Much like Clayton Moore with the character of the Lone Ranger, Bill Boyd became Hopalong Cassidy, and was proud of it. Sixty six films and two seasons of TV episodes, Hoppy was the man in black.

Very practical guide to starting without religious or Indian jargon

I got this book initially from the public library. I was so impressed that I sought to buy it for my personal library. All I could find was out of print used copies. When it arrived I was satisfied. Condition was very good, though the paper was a bit aging (it is a cheaper stock to begin with). Several years later I now see Ian Gawler has published a new edition, I think it has a slightly different title. Since the subject should not change much, I would highly recommend either book over most of the others out there regarding meditation. This one is very practical and to the point. He does not bog you down with chapters on various religious traditions and exotic sounding Indan terminology. In fact he says that people put too much into the process. It really is much more intuitive and easy to put yourself into a state of relaxation than most people realize. In fact he says that by trying too hard, you defeat the process of relaxing.
