Real story telling and charming protagonists

I absolutely loved this book. Great character evolution/development. It's so great to read believable characters and interactions. Also refreshing was the portrayal of a healthy naturally evolving relationship between the two main protagonists even when they were struggling through their own personal demons. This book just proves you don't need crazy theatrics and unrealistic scenarios to make a fantastic story. A huge thank you to the author for getting it right and making a story feel real. You teased your audience when you needed and didn't go for the cheap and easy dramatics in your characters challenging moments to try and ratchet up you reader's emotions. It just made this story and it's players much more genuine in my opinion.

What a Great Book!!!

Zoe Reed is an outstanding writer that can truly weave a tale and leave the reader wanting more. The story and characters developed smoothly with great depth and without the rush that is often felt with some writers. The characters were so believable that I found myself caught up in the emotions and storyline. I was so invested in this book that I was laughing angry and tearing up along with the characters. I couldn’t put the book down.

I highly recommend this book and if you like a bit of paranormal you need to check out Zoe’s other books. I cannot wait for her next novel to come out!!!

This book is so beautifully written. The character development between Jordan and Taylor ...

This book is so beautifully written. The character development between Jordan and Taylor was superb; the awkward friendship into the wonderfully pure relationship as well as the girls as separate people dealing with their own personal issues. I also loved the supporting cast. They were multi-faceted characters rather than being one dimensional fillers. Everything about this book drew me in- from the drama and the action to the intensity of emotion from the characters I grew to love. I couldn't stop reading and when I finished it, I was tempted to start re-reading it. I definitely recommend this book!

Doing Church as a Team

Pastor Wayne captures the essence of Ephesians Chapter Four and the heart of effective ministry that is "gift based" and driven by volunteers rather than paid professionals. The key to the book is that God has placed gifts, dreams and abilities in each person and they must be seen as valuable. Release those dreams and passions and with very little motivation these people will serve and become a mobilized force living out their God given passion. This book has helped our local church to become far more successful and have a greater impact on our community. We have grown in numbers and in volunteers here in our California church.
I highly recommend it to you. The leaders New Hope (Wayne's church) is raising up and deploying is amazing.

Practical review

This book reinforced a lot of what I have previously read and experienced regarding team leadership. However, it also contains quite a few gems that I had not previously considered.

One example is the development of servant-leaders. I have always used the traditional means: train someone, mentor them, and prepare them to take over when it's time for the leader to leave. Cordeiro's approach is different. He still advocates training and mentorship, but adds the dimension of "working through" others. This involves not only using the gifts/talents God has given us, but also actively seeking out others who are like-minded, teaming up with them, and developing them to take the leadership role. In this way, no one becomes indispensable. This concept takes leader development one significant step further than the process with which I was familiar.

Having just read Neil Cole's Organic Church, I found it interesting how much Cordeiro and Cole differ on church organization. Both authors base their reasoning on fractals and repeating patterns. Both authors also point out that churches need to be "organic" (Cordeiro calls church an "organism"). Yet, while Cole recommends a scattered, non-linear organization, Cordeiro recommends teams (and teams within teams) based on five members (ten members counting spouses). Although both are based on Biblical concepts, it seems to me that Cordeiro's recommendations would be a lot more practical for anything but the smaller congregations.

Unlike many books I've read about transforming churches, this one contains a lot of practical advice. As Cordeiro points out, no successful church model can be exactly duplicated at another church; there are just far too many variables in play (the main one being God's will!). However, the principles he lays out help me understand how such a transformation can take place.

One key principle is that the church needs to be in alignment. Too often, folks pursue whatever ministry or mission that strikes their fancy, and even convince the congregation to fund their activities. That's fine, but we need to agree on God's vision and purpose of the church, and then make sure our ministries line up with that vision and purpose.

Another key principle that really spoke to me was the need to keep visible reminders about our church culture, vision, and purpose. It's one thing to seek and understand God's vision and purpose for a church (which is a great accomplishment in itself). It's another great step forward to capture that vision and purpose (and resulting values/culture) and keep them on display for all to see. This reinforces members while communicating to visitors and guests.

One final principle I'll mention (since there are too many to capture here): the dependency on healthy relationships. Many books about church transitions mention relationships, especially how Christian relationships should reflect the relationship within the Godhead and between God and Christians. But Cordeiro nails it when he emphasize that---no matter how great the church programs may be---they won't be a success without healthy relationships within the church. Any church in transition needs to fix relationships before they start trying to create new programs.

On a larger view, this book is a great guide on how to "do church." Every ministry and mission in the church depends on a team---even a team of two or three. Therefore, it's critical to know how to determine, develop, organize, and set up those teams for success. Even more important is having people serve in the right places, connecting people with God's purpose for them.

People are exposed by the arrogance and mendacity of governments on a daily basis but just lie on the ropes and take it.
At least if it all goes pear shaped I am aware of what is going on which is more than I can say for the mass majority of humans on this planet.
These books are sensational....A must read.

..but wait, isn't Icke insane??

An interesting read although in a number of very real ways, I wish I hadn't read this book. Not least because it's put me off eating or drinking anything with Aspartame in it. Do I rot my teeth on Coke Classic or my brain on Diet Coke? (I could drink Diet Rite or something but that's going to extremes).

Alice in Wonderland and the World Trade Center Disaster contains a comprehensive look at the background to many of the major players allegedly involved in 9/11 and their connection/ involvement with the Illuminati, the global cabal said to control the world. Many claims are made by Icke, more often than not backed up by a slew of data and other information published at the end of each chapter.

Certain ideas of Icke's I can agree with. Something's rotten in the White House when it comes to the official 9/11 story we're asked to swallow. I'm not sure about the whole child abuse thing he peddles with regards to the Bush Family and friends, though. However, if only one claim by Icke is true, then there are some serious questions to be asked.

About the Author
Marcia Millon Cornett is the Rehn Professor of Business at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. She received her B.S. degree in Economics from Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, and her M.B.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Finance from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. Dr. Cornett has written and published several articles in the areas of bank performance, bank regulation, and corporate finance. Articles authored by Dr. Cornett have appeared in such academic journals as the Journal of Finance, the Journal of Money, Credit and Banking, the Journal of Financial Economics, Financial Management, and the Journal of Banking & Finance. She served as an associate editor of Financial Management and is currently an associate editor for the Journal of Banking & Finance, Journal of Financial Services Research, FMA Online, the Multinational Finance Journal and the Review of Financial Economics. Dr. Cornett is currently a member of the Board of Directors, the Executive Committee, and the Finance Committee of the SIU Credit Union. Dr. Cornett has also taught at the University of Colorado, Boston College, and Southern Methodist University. She is a member of the Financial Management Association, the American Finance Association, and the Western Finance Association.

Troy A. Adair, Jr., Ph.D. (Ann Arbor, MI) is the coordinator and primary instructor for corporate finance at the University of Michigan. He is the author of Excel Applications to Accompany Corporate Finance with Excel Tutor.

About the Author
Dr. William K. McNeil, a historian with a Ph.D. in Folklore and American Studies, has been the folklorist at the Ozark folk Center in Mountain View, Arkansas, since 1976. Dr. McNeil has also worked for the Smithsonian Institution and the Office of State History in Albany, NY. In 1995, he was elected to the Fellows of the American Folklore Society.Dr. McNeil has writen sixteen books and contributed to many publications as an editor, columnist, or reviewer. He has also produced thirty-six recordings dealing with folk, popular, country, and gospel music. His Smithsonian Collection of Classic Blues was nominated for a Grammy Award in 1993.
